Transparency and Accountability is one of the core messages behind fair trade. As such, APFTI strives to lead by example. We have open and honest dialogue with our beneficiaries and their communities, partners and donors, and our information is readily available. |
Social and Environmental ResponsibilityOutside of our core mandate, APFTI is committed to helping our fellow Filipinos. Examples include:
On the Job Training Opportunities Providing hands-on and meaningful work experience to college students, interns and volunteers, allowing them to gain invaluable experience to aid in their employment opportunities. This is especially meaningful in a country where underemployment is currently hovering around the 20% mark.
Cyclone Frank Relief Appeal Following the devastating onslaught by Cyclone Frank in June 2008, APFTI coordinated relief effort for our producers and their fellow community members in Aklan, Capiz and IloIlo. This included collection and distribution of water, food and clothing. Christmas Food Hamper APFTI staff members donated non-perishable food items for donation to less fortunate Filipinos in Christmas 2008.
Internal Environmental Policy APFTI is implementing an Environmental policy in our head-office, attempting to create zero-waste and reduce energy consumption Environmental protection in Northern Luzon APFTI partnered with Seacology and the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority to renovate a community hall in Palaui Island, Northern Luzon, in exchange for the protection of virgin forestland for 20 years. Palaui Island is a protected seascape and landscape that is the last frontier of the Sierra Madres mountain range.
