APFTI has a dedicated advocacy program that endeavours to widen the circle of fair trade advocates and practitioners in the country by engaging in various awareness campaigns and networking activities.
Advocating the standards and principles of fair trade to producers has always been one of APFTI’s cornerstone activities. To this end, it has instituted the conduct of the following activities: In partnership with other fair trade organizations, APFTI works for the development of a viable domestic market for fair trade products by actively engaging in consumer awareness activities and mobilizing the support of the mass media.
APFTI strives for the enactment of a Fair Trade Law that guarantees support and protection to small producers in the face of a rapidly globalizing economy; hence it seeks to identify appropriate measures and champions from the Philippine Legislature and the different agencies of the government to create a policy environment that is responsive to the genuine concerns of small producers.
On a yearly basis, the APFTI organizes these two special events: World Fair Trade Day – an event where fair traders across the globe speak in unison about fair trade; and Annual Partners’ Conference – a gathering of APFTI’s partner organizations and assisted producers that serves as a venue for information exchange about fair trade, enterprise development and relevant social issues.
